The Fall of a Once Great Nation

THE FALL OF A ONCE GREAT NATION

I was born during the Eisenhower Administration, I grew up with a tremendous pride in our nation. We had real heroes like Audie Murphy. Today a kid not dropping out of high school is considered a hero. Amazingly, in meeting the minimal expectations, a person can attain the status of hero. Thirty years of failing public education has brought us to where we currently are. Twenty-five year olds can tell you the status of the "American Idol" contestants, and about "Fear Factor," but not who the vice president, secretary of state or secretary of defense are. Other voters who have no understanding of what or who caused the housing market failure can update you about the "View" or "Oprah." Teachers will tell you that George Bush alone is responsible for "No Child Left Behind" and have no clue that liberal democrats Ted Kennedy-Massachusetts and George Miller-California are the co-authors of NCLB.

People wanted change and change they will get. I only hope it's not at too great a cost to them. Change is not necessarily a bad thing, but if you have no idea where the change is taking you, it could be problematic. Check around and see how many of the true believers actually know where their new leader plans to take them or even what he believes in.

We as a country are on the verge of exchanging the ideological beliefs and philosophies of our founding fathers for those of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barnie Frank, Barrack Obama and Joe Biden. The genius of Washington, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Adams, Madison and Monroe, which I truly believe were guided by divine inspiration, are pushed aside by the likes of the aforementioned lunatics parading as democrats. Some would call what these mental midgets advocate is a form of European socialism. It's not pure socialism yet because they have to sneak up on the sleeping masses. Whatever you call it, it's sure as hell not free market capitalism which served us well for over 200 years. People say all kinds of silly things like diversity or multiculturalism are what made us the greatest nation of the face of the earth. The simple truth is freedom has allowed us to be all that we can be. The larger more invasive government becomes the less freedoms we have. Abraham Lincoln said, "A government that can do everything for you can take everything from you." Socialism first destroys the economy then the country."
While leaving the grocery store this morning, something struck me as quite odd. It was two women collecting canned foods for the needy. My understanding was once the transformational, most merciful, Messiah Lord Barrack Hussein Obama was elected, all suffering and need would cease, woops! I have a few predictions about the first and only term for the Messiah:

  • By the start of his third year gas will cost Americans between $4.50 to $5.00 a gallon.

  • Not the rich, but instead families earning from $50,000 a year and up will experience the tax increases. Obama will say that the economy is is worse shape than anticipated, so we must pay more.

  • Americans will see their taxes increase in 2009 and once again in 2010 when the Bush tax cuts expire.

  • The defense department's budget will be cut from between ten to twenty-five percent.

  • In the first year of his administration, the least experienced person ever to be elected president will be confronted with a severe international crisis as our adversaries will take advantage of his inexperience and poor judgments

  • The nation will sink deeper into recession or possible depression under his brilliant leadership (depending on his action or inaction).

  • Oil independence will not be achieved in the next ten, let alone twenty-five years.

Two years into the administration the president and congress will continue to blame George Bush despite the fact that congress will have been in democrat control for four years and the White House for two. The sleeping masses will not notice.

Save these predictions and see if I'm correct about them.

Over the last decade, I have told many friends that one day the balance would tip between those with their hands out and those who are expected to give. That tipping point may have been reached. I listen to many people who say that America can withstand almost anything, to include Obama and his plans for us. Some of them say that one day a generation will come along that is tired of all the degradation, permissiveness, lack of accountability and lack of responsibility, and will toss it all and replace it with decency, self control and personal responsibility. Personally, I think we are done for and will fall like the Greek and Roman Empires before us. God I pray that I am wrong, and I ask that God bless America.

The Liberal Mind and the selection of Judge Sotomayor

The reaction of the liberals to Sonia Sotomayor's nomination was a stark reminder of how the liberal mind works. To the lib mind the following is all that matters: if confirmed, Sotomayor would be the first Hispanic (and female to boot) on the Supreme Court. Feels really good doesn't it? All attempts to ascertain whether or not she would be an effective justice are viewed as racist and sexist at a minimum.

Sotomayor born of Puerto Rican descent grew up in the projects of the South Bronx. At age eight she learned how to inject herself with insulin for her diabetes. Her father died when she was nine, and her mother (a nurse) worked two jobs to raise her. She loved Nancy Drew Mysteries and Perry Mason. She graduated summa cum laude from Princeton. Sotomayor went on to graduate from Yale Law School. After law school she became a state prosecutor, federal judge and eventually a federal appellate court justice. Clearly she is the epitome of the American Dream come true. She is exceptionally qualified to grace the covers of Time and Newsweek magazines as an example for all. If you ask her what lead to her success she undoubtedly would respond to the effect that hard work, dedication and tenacity has brought her success. You will never find proponents of the welfare state, such as herself and Obama, say that the welfare state has made me what I am today. They didn't need it but apparently they think we do.

If the true aim of the democrats is the feel good goal of having a Hispanic on the court they would not have attacked, and attempted to destroy Miguel Estrada (another American Dream come true) when he was nominated for the court. Diversity is not the purpose of her nomination. The empathy they speak of is another word for judicial activism. Her propensity toward judicial activism is the reason she was selected. Many of the controversial plans the libs have for the nation would not succeed if left either to an enactment of congress or to the vote of the American people. The failed proposal of amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens is a prime example of how congress was forced to back down when the American People spoke. Proposition 8 in California is another example of the people speaking with their vote.

Judicial activism is the course chosen by the lib. Abortion as an alternative form of contraception came about through this process. It is not something the voters would have approved, nor is it likely that congress would have enacted it either if the members intended to retain their seats. It could only be accomplished through judicial fiat. Several friends have asked me that if Obama and the Democrat Congress are shown to be in error, will not future administrations and congresses reverse and correct them? This is the exact reason why they present these issues to the courts in the guise of civil or human rights, and ask activist judges to find them constitutionally guaranteed. Since the constitution is the supreme law of the land the policies will stand over the long term. Future presidents and congresses cannot alter the policy. The Supreme Court in a future ruling or a constitutional amendment would be the only remedy. When activist judges create law from the bench, we no longer have a system of checks and balances, as the three branches are no longer co-equal. The court stands above the other two branches and the American people.

How effective of a justice will Sotomayor be? The seven cases that she has ruled on that were reviewed by the Supreme Court are as follows: one pending, two upheld, four reversed. Over fifty percent of the time the Supreme Court has ruled her judgments to be in error. Good thing she is not a surgeon with a record like that. As a Supreme Court Justice the worst she could do is irreparable damage to the nation with her activism. No big deal, especially with the trade off of her being the first Hispanic on the court, and a woman to boot.

Open letter to President Obama from Lou Pritchett

My son forwarded this e-mail to me. I know nothing of Mr. Pritchett who is identified as the foremost leader in change management, an author and dynamic teacher. I enjoyed reading his letter and you may also.

"AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.
You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.

You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America' crowd and deliver this message abroad.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitals goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.
You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Reillys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Lou Pritchett"

Where are we headed? Where were we at?

I have two question I wish all that view to ask themselves.
What system are we moving towards?
What system are we moving from?
A. Free Market : an economic system operating by free competition, Websters 10th Collegiate, page 465.
B. Socialism: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, Websters 10th Collegiate, page 1114.
C. Fascism: A political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition, Websters 10th Collegiate, page 422.

Remember I didn't say we are there. I asked what are we moving from and to where are we moving, eventually.
